The history of the Rhodes family in pictures and stories.
What do you have in you?
Now here’s a Ralph story. Let me set the stage. It’s Sunday morning, after breakfast, pancakes, and I was curious what nationalities were in the family. I was only about 10 years old and didn’t know exactly how to ask this. So, I asked
“Daddy, what do you have in you?” his reply–
“Oh, a little bit of meanness,”
“No, no, no! What do you have in you?” — his reply
“Oh, a little bit of kindness.” Now, frustrated, I said,
“NO,NO,NO! What do you have in you?!?” his reply —
“A whole lot of hotcakes!”
That just cracked me up so much, that I ran into the house to tell my mother.

Whenever Craig played the theme from The Magnificent Seven, Ralph would grab a hat, a cigarette and look for the nearest rifle and strike a pose. I think Carolyn appreciated this only slightly more that when he’d attempt his two-fingered whistle.

Can you find all the Rhodes?
Update!
This next picture is hanging in the Aptos History Museum. The caption says about 1915, but the Rhodes Family didn’t move to Aptos until 1917. My copy says September 12, 1921. See the list of names below it.
Here’s the picture in the Museum. There is also a picture of Cecil teaching a class at the New Aptos School, which Harry helped get built in the 20’s.
